We're Not Your Average Tutors. 🐾
Doodle & Read was born out of a simple belief: every child deserves a teacher who knows how reading works. Not guesswork. Not worksheets. Real, research-backed instruction from educators who have sat on the classroom floor with struggling readers and know exactly what it takes to turn things around.
We are two university literacy educators, a combined pack of doodles, and a whole lot of passion for early readers. Our sessions are virtual, our methods are proven, and our dogs are very enthusiastic co-hosts.
Meet the Pack! 🐾
Lauren Campbell
Founder | Reading Specialist | OG TrainedLauren brings 14 years of education experience to every Doodle & Read session, starting in K-2 classrooms before moving into university-level teacher preparation at the University of Tennessee at Martin. She has spent years training the next generation of teachers in structured literacy and Science of Reading principles, and she still loves getting in the trenches with early readers herself.
She holds advanced degrees in reading and education and is both a credentialed Reading Specialist and Orton-Gillingham trained, the gold standard for working with struggling readers and students with dyslexia. She was recognized as Teacher of the Year at the school, district, and regional levels. She knows what struggling readers look like, what they need, and exactly how to get them there.
She also co-hosts 3 Profs in a Pod, a Science of Reading professional development brand for K-5 educators.
Her doodles Rambo, Stella, Molly, and Honey make regular Zoom appearances. They are not certified. But they are very good boys and girls.
Reading Specialist | OG TrainedAubrey Ricketts
Aubrey spent four years teaching kindergarten before making the move to university-level teacher preparation, where she has spent the last two years training future elementary educators in both literacy and mathematics instruction. She genuinely loves both subjects equally, which is rare and makes her an incredibly well-rounded tutor for young learners who need support in more than one area.
She holds a Master's in Literacy and is Orton-Gillingham trained, bringing the same structured, evidence-based approach to every session that she teaches her own university students to use. She has a gift for making hard concepts feel approachable, whether that's cracking the code on phonics or building number sense from the ground up. When a child has that breakthrough moment, she lives for it.
She co-hosts 3 Profs in a Pod alongside Lauren.
Her Aussiedoodle Marlee and Australian Shepherd Millie are official Doodle & Read supervisors. They take their jobs very seriously.
